Competition Rules:
Genre: The song must clearly be recognizable as country music or a subgenre of it. Remember, country music is all about storytelling.
Originality: The song must be previously unpublished and unlicensed. It must include both music and lyrics.
Submission: Participants should submit a video recording of the song, with a maximum length of 4 minutes. A basic quality recording, such as one made with a mobile phone, is sufficient. The submission must include the song title, performer’s name, and the names of the composer(s). The recording should be sent via email to the address provided below. Participation fee is 20€ per song. Pay the fee before sending the song at hauhianmylly.fi
Selection: A jury will select three to five of the best performances, which will advance to the competition finals at the Hauhia Country Festival. In the final, each contestant will have 10-15 minutes to perform their music, with the competition piece being a part of the performance.
Rights and Usage: The competition organizers have the right to archive the competition materials in any format for internal use by Hauhia Country. Additionally, they have the right to publish the lyrics and sheet music, along with a one-minute excerpt from the submitted recording, on the Hauhia Country and competition partners' websites for public viewing. The organizers also have the right to use the performance in other media for promotional purposes (e.g., television, radio, social media).
Licensing: If the songwriters are members of Teosto ry or another copyright organization, Hauhia Country will obtain the necessary recording, performance, and distribution licenses from the relevant organization. Participants must inform the organizers about their affiliation with such organizations upon entering the competition.
Careful Handling: The organizers commit to handling the submissions with care. The creators and performers of the sample recordings confirm that they have given their consent for the use described in section 5 of the competition rules. The person submitting the recording is solely responsible for ensuring that they have the permission of all musicians, sound engineers, and other individuals involved in the recording to submit it to the competition and is liable for any consequences if this is not the case. Submitting the recording constitutes acceptance of these terms.
Submission Deadline: Submissions must be sent to Hauhia Country by June 1, 2025. Late submissions will not be considered. The jury will be announced by May 15, 2025, and the three to five finalists will be announced online at hauhianmylly.fi by June 1, 2025. The finalists will also be notified in writing and provided with detailed instructions for the final competition. The final will take place on June 28, 2025, as part of the Hauhia Country Festival.
Prizes: The prizes will be announced in spring 2025. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed.
