The acronym ITE comes from the Finnish ‘itse tehty elämä’, i.e. ‘self-made life’. ITE is art that is dependent on its maker’s environment and experience. It is a way to live a good life that emphasises aesthetic values.
The Hauhia Mill was built 1881 and the existing sawmill 1939. The mill and the sawmill have alway been using only hydropower. From the 1930´s to 1960´s the mill also provided a DC electric power generator for lighting.
