Hauhia village

Hauhia village is a uniquely beautiful small village in the Vaalimaanjoki River Valley. Long ago, the valley was part of a sea bay, and beneath the clay layers, ancient fine beach sand may still be found.

Hauhia village can be accessed via three different routes: the Miehikkälä kk–Hurttala road, the Miehikkälä kk–Taavetti road, and directly from the Miehikkälä church village.

Hauhia is a paradise for birds, especially shore and waterfowl. In fact, Jouni Hiltunen’s film "The Long Journey of the Crane Chick" was filmed here (highly recommended!). You may also spot beavers and deer in the area.

In Hauhia, you can enjoy peace and fresh countryside air. There are many hiking trails around the village, and access to the water is available.

The heart of the village is the historic Hauhia watermill, where various music events are held.
